Back in August I traveled to Colordao (my first time there) to attend a photography workshop with Blue Lily.
Do you know them? You should. They are an amazing husband and wife team my age that travel the world to photograph families. While homeschoolong their 2 kids, same age as my kids. See why I like them? They make being homeless look fun. They live simple, honest, rewarding lives and don't take themselves too seriously. They are amazing people. And super rad photographers.
Anyway, a bunch of photographers from all over the USA flew into Denver to spend 3 days together. And, let me tell you.... we took a lot of photos. Here is the gang. Did I mention we all stay in one house? (this house had taxidermy everywhere, so we "borrowed" this guy for our pic)
I thought it would be fun to share one of our sessions with you. Typically a model family is chosen and all 30 of us photograph them at the same time, while trying different techniques and sharing lenses etc. Its organzed chaos. How better to learn, then to shoot alongside eachother.
This time, we kicked it up a notch. Half of the group were the models, and other half of us, were the photographers. And then we threw caution to the wind....
we started the hike up the trail. and were loosing light fast.
this was our set up. we traveled light. just 2 white sheets. and ......
some paint...
it wasn't going well at the begining, we weren't going for a bad murder scene
then we really amp it up
girls can be ruthless
see the lovely lady in the yellow pants... she is Wendy, of Blue Lily. (and this WAS her idea, do don't feel bad for her:)
the amazing momma on the left is Meg. The Meg (click on her name, not sure why the link isn't changing colors... grr.), Do you know her? You should. She has a heart the size of Texas... and speaking of Texas, this hottie on the right is from Texas. She has mad skills, so if you need pictures in Texas, I will hook you up with her. Then came the real fun... karate kid ain't got nothing on these ninjas
Colorado was beautiful. So was just hanging out with all kinds of photographers from all over the USA. Its good to be with people who speak your language. You know.. ISO... aperture... bracketing...back button focusing...depth of field... It filled my soul and reminded me why I love my job.

Wendy - How fun Jamie! I didn't know you went to the Blue Lily workshop. It looks like a blast. I "know" Tyler and Wendy through Meg. Meg and I go way back. lol I've loved her blog since the very early years. I would love to go to her craft weekend. {sigh}
